See the highlights of two UNESCO World Heritage Sites - the historical centers of Split and Trogir, on this guided excursion!
You will meet your guide at the Diocletian Palace complex just a few minutes from your Split cruise ship pier. Considered one of Split's main highlights, you will begin a 90-minute guided walking exploration through several of the structures of the larger palace compound. Diocletian Palace is considered one of the most impressive Roman ruins. Emperor Diocletian voluntarily gave up the throne in the 4th century and built the palace as half residence and half military garrison. Starting in the cellars, you will visit several levels of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Observe the Cathedral of St. Jude, the patron saint of Split, constructed on the remains of an ancient shrine.
Continue through the winding cobble-stoned streets, and admire the Golden and Silver Gates of the Palace as well as the Peristyle Square. Browse one of the biggest coastal markets around with its vibrant colors and various offerings or explore more of the town with some free time.
See the only intact black granite sphinx out of the 12 brought to Split.
Jump on board your transportation for a 30-minute panoramic drive to the nearby city of Trogir. As you journey along the Dalmatian Coastline, enjoy great scenic views of the eastern Adriatic. Situated between the country's mainland and the island of Ciovo, you will arrive at a small islet and find Trogir.
Follow your friendly and knowledgeable guide through cobble-stoned streets and enjoy observing, whilst being educated, on passing old stone houses, churches, palaces, monasteries, and city walls. You will visit the popular town attraction, the St. Lawrence Cathedral. From its Romanesque artwork by Radovan, marvel at the figurines of lions and Adam and Eve. City walls previously surrounded the town and the historical center helped Trogir make the UNESCO World Heritage list.
You will spend a total of approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes in Trogir. You will also have free time to explore more of the historic center or wander the town for photo opportunities. Entrance to the cathedral is included in the excursion price as well.
At the appointed time, you will join up with your guide for the return to the waterfront in Split, a 30-minute transfer away. From here, you can sightsee some more or walk back to the cruise or tender pier approximately a 5-8 minute walk.
Please note there is a considerable amount of walking on this excursion. Guests must be physically able to handle the moderate walking distance and wear comfortable walking shoes.
